Lately the Diamondbacks seem to be playing
about the way they did in the Yankees series
earlier this year: The D-backs look like a
team of AA and AAA players going up against
seasoned major-leaguers (and considering
how short a time many of them have been in
the bigs, that's not far from the truth). They
may well be folding under the pressure of
the playoff race. With even Brandon Webb
pitching poorly, this malaise seems to be
contagious.
What did they do, what did Bob Melvin do,
that enabled them to have that long streak
of successful baseball? They need to get
back to that. (I could cynically say that
their winning ways started when they fired
their hitting coach, and ask, Whom can
they fire this time?)
Come on, guys. You've come this far;
you're still likely playoff contenders;
there's no need to panic; just play
good baseball, as you have for much
of the season.
(Does anyone in the D-backs organization
read this group? If so, feel free to post
this on a bulletin board or whatever.)
