Now there's a term that has lost it's meaning. I just heard the Mets TV
announcers complaining about some recent incident and calling it "bush
league". I missed the details (Figueroa, Lopez ?) but it got me thinking
about the term. It had a meaning when kids started playing in low, low
minors (bush) when there was many levels of minor leagues and worked their
way up. But now there are basically only 3 or 4 levels and and guys skip
right through - and then learn to perform in the majors. And the actions
/
responses that used to be called bush are now practiced and synchronized
for
the cameras. Take your hat off when you cross the plate so you get facial
recognition. Pump your fist when you strike someone out. Point skyward
(to
thank God ?) when you get a hit. What does it take to qualify for "bush"
today ?
