Part of me wonders why I'm even bothering with this tonight since these
losing streaks generally mean few if any responses. Guess I'm just a
slave to being a competist.
As much of a bummer as this game and recent losing stretch is I refuse
to let it ruin the fun that was Manny's great running catch in left, his
momentum carrying him several steps up the wall, high fiving the fan,
coming to ground and making that throw that starts the second half of
that double play at first. Those who missed it will undoubtedly get
lots of chances to see it, beyond even ESPN tonight because you just
know that NESN will find a way to make it part of their daily
advertizing.
I know it's a moot point but I wonder if Francona would have handled the
pen differently than Mills did. Would Terry have gone from Lopez to
Hansen after Lopez got the first 2 men so easily or would he have let
Lopez try to finish the 7th. and gone to Oki to start a clean 8th?
That's not a criticism of Mills choices. Just curious. I just wonder
how things would have come out if handled differently. And if Lester
only threw 86 pitches why wa he taken out? Because he was starting to
get hit?
Along the 'you know it's bad when..." lines others are discussing here,
you know it's bad when Daniel Cabrera (1 - 9 vs. the Sox coming in.)
beats you.

This game's +s and -s and STAR and comments:
Starting pitching:
Lester gets a plus for his 6 inning 2 run effort. Though his being
unable to go 7 innings was a part of this.
Relief pitching:
Two here:
Hansen gets a " - " for setting up the losing runs by walking a man and
giving up a hit while getting no outs .
Oki gets a " - " for letting them in with the grand slam.
Offense:
Ellsbury gets a " + " for the 3 hits. Though again with just a run
scored he had little direct affect on the game. That's 3 or 4 times
this week or so that a 3 hit hit game has produced little or nothing in
the way of runs. Does this mean anything with regards to the losing
streak?
Defense:
Manny has to get a " + " for the 'high five double play. Just for the
coolness factor.
