semi-OT: Ortiz's jersey and my strange dream

by rmjon23 <rmjon23@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 18, 2008 at 03:23 AM

I know I sound like Martin Luther King here, but I had a dream last
night and when I woke up today I went over it, because it seemed very
funny: that Red Sox fan who worked on the new Yankee stadium and later
claimed he buried an Ortiz jersey under the dugout in order to "curse"
the Yankees? I dreamed that the guy just lied about burying the
jersey, and the Yankees excavated and excavated until they'd torn up
many millions of dollars worth of construction, only to find NOTHING!
They - in my dream - are mega-mind****ed. The construction worker/Red
Sox fan continues to insist he placed the jersey there. It is not
found. Then, he said his joke had gone too far: he never put a jersey
down there at all!

Later, stories came out that the guy was a notorious prankster. But
still, many Yankee fans - and many who are part of the Yankee
organization - believe the jersey is there. Somewhere. Causing untold
evil and wreaking major havoc on the Yankees players. Meanwhile, the
Yankees lose 37 straight games; everything goes wrong for them. (It
was a pleasant dream.)

The construction worker is seen on TV everywhere, always claiming he
doesn't know what the big deal was; it was ONLY a jersey! How,
scientifically, can something that harmless cause any problems? And
then he always adds that he never buried it there in the first place;
it was a joke he told over beers to some of his Red Sox fan friends,
and they perpetuated it until it got all out of hand. He can't explain
why the Yankees suck, and sorta "seems" to feel bad for all the harm
that has come to the Yankees.

In my dream the Angels were winning a lot. The time in the dream was
in "dream-time" (imagine that!), so it's all warped and sorta felt
like a wild "shaggy dog" story when I went over it after waking.

What was really weird, to me: after waking up and going over this wild
dream, I was still sorta not totally awake, and was confused about the
"facts" of the case that came out over the last week or so. I even
doubted that it had happened; that is, I guessed that the story my
dream was based on was itself part of the dream. I was relieved,
sitting with coffee and feeling very alert, to be confirmed reading on
the Net that I hadn't dreamed the "real" story. I think I read about
the story for the first time a few days earlier, but it was after a
very long day of reading and writing a bunch of philosophical stuff
that had nothing to do with baseball; I think when I read the news
that day, late at night, I had only processed it as a "funny" story
and moved on. I didn' think much about it. I don't think I "reflected"
on it. My subconscious (or whatever the latest theory is) must have
really delighted in the story in a way I wasn't aware of?

So, I guess I have more in common with MLK than I thought!

FWIW: The only drugs I've been using lately: one beer about an hour
before bedtime.
