One of the things I don't usually do is read the posts over in Al's blog
(Far too many, and I don't want to spend the time finding out who the
worthwhile posters are.), but I read one today and it gave me pause. This
poster had attended a Camden Riversharks game, and two of the players were
former Cubs, Bobby Hill and Randall Simon. As he pointed out, there was
some consternation among Cubs fans when they traded Hill (We got ARam in
that trade.), because he was going to be our second baseman of the
future.
I think we fans tend to overvalue our own prospects, and when they are
traded many of us get upset, believeing that we are squandering the future
(Another example---Choi for Lee.). After reading that post, I tried to
recall fairly recent Cubs' prospects who were traded who became good major
league baseball players. Only a few immediately came to mind---and both
of
them are now struggling---Dontrelle Willis and Jon Garland. I believe
Pinto
is doing a good relief job in Florida. I believe Lohse and Wellenmeyer
will
soon come down to their actual ability levels.
So, my question to our group is---"What Cubs prospects in recent years
have
been traded and became good players for other teams?"
