random thoughts on damn near everything

by henreporter@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apr 24, 2008 at 05:50 PM

For the past few years I've been reading on this site and hearing on
the talk shows from fans about what this organization really needs to
fix things up. We need a "proven" closer. we got that. We need a
"proven" manager. we got that too. Now we finally have the "proven" GM
that people have been clamoring for. The Reds shouldn't have a losing
season for some time to come.

As for me, I've been saying that we need starting pitching that can
get us past the 6th inning without people leaving early to beat
traffic. Were on the 5th turn through the rotation and what do we
have. Harang is a stud. Volquez is a revelation. Cueto has been league
average so far. Arroyo and etc have sucked bowls. were 3/4 of the way
there.

Personally, I think they pushed the panic button too early on Fogg.
Not that I'm a big sup****ter, but 2 lousy starts sandwiched around a
pretty good one is no reason to make a move.

Regarding Arroyo, theres either something wrong with him - Brantley
keeps saying the velocity isnt there, Pole says he can find nothing
mechanically wrong - or the league has him figured to a T and Bronson
needs to make a crapload of adjustments to his approach. I'm guessing
his arm is sore, tired or darn near dead and it hasnt been diagnosed
as such yet. This is a big blow to Reds playoff hopes. we need him
around to eat up 200 innings at league average or best. I have
reasonable doubts about the diminutive Cueto and inefficient Volquez
being effective for that long.

Anybody watching Dunn at the plate? What seems to be the problem? Or
is there one.

Last week i hear the usual yokles on Cinci talk radio (via XM)
complaining about the team and offering up solutions, most of which
typically involve playing Ryan Freel. If I hear another redneck (i.e.
white guy from a rural area in Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky) phone in and say
that Encarnacion needs to be gotten rid of and hey, how about putting
Ryan Freel at 3rd, I'm gonna say f**k it and vote democrat this fall.
Leave the kid alone. Freel would strike out 100-125 times with no
power if he played a full season and isnt going to outhit EE in any
way shape or form. But of course that would be conveniently ignored by
the same people who constantly critcize the reds hitters for the high
K totals. I'm so glad Edwin is streaking hot right now. It should at
least shut up a few of the guys. I heard one guy say that Edwin isnt
nearly as good as his brother. I assume he meant ex-red juan. Ha! the
jokes on him because A) they arent brothers and b) Juan is an average
player at best and below average considering he's an outfielder.

Dan O'Brien took a lot of crap about his performance as Reds GM but
give him some credit for Bruce, Bailey, and Cueto who were all signed
under his tenure. Consecutive 1st round picks on Bailey and Bruce. Not
too bad. From what I understand he has really helped get the Reds
involved in Latin America's talent pool again. That's a mark for Dan
and a mark against Bowden who let things fall apart down there.

Bowdens people signed Votto into this org which tells you how long
Joeys been around.

I'me pretty optimistic about this season just based on the starting
pitching.

After May 20, all *****ing or otherwise about this team shall be
considered legitimate and appropriate. Until then, its really to early
to tell much. I have spoken.

 love, Henry
