MILWAUKEE -- Catcher Eric Munson was claimed by the Milwaukee Brewers off
waivers from the Houston Astros on Monday.
The 30-year-old left-handed hitter batted .235 with four homers and 15
RBIs
in 50 games with Houston last year, and hit .283 with seven homers and 26
RBIs for Triple-A Round Rock. He was taken by Detroit with the third
overall
pick of the 1999 amateur draft and signed with the Astros in December
2005.
Milwaukee designated right-hander Mike Jones for assignment and has 10
days
to trade him, release him or assign him outright to the minors. A
first-round draft pick in 2001, Jones has been slowed by shoulder and
elbow
operations.
