Running on contact !?!?

by JEK <mcrebob@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 16, 2008 at 04:14 AM

I just read that Beltran was instructed to run on contact.

If the ball leaves the infield, Beltran scores. Pop up, he needs to
tag. Hard hit grounder, and he's likely to be gunned down anyway. Even
the Nats first baseman has a reasonable arm. How many plays are there
really where breaking on contact from third is a good thing? Does
Delgado hit weak ground balls?

If I remember correctly, Church did this exactly this earlier in the
year, and a critical run was doubled up at home.

Then there was the ridiculous triple where Reyes was waved home. And
of course, as dangerous as he is with his speed, Reyes does make good
choices on the base path.

There's a real lack of smarts in regards to base coaching on this
team. I know Alomar is legend, but this is friggin ridiculous.
