Fishermen Find Body
John Doe was floating near Promised Land
By Taylor K. Vecsey

That an otherwise unidentified man was wearing a Boston Red Sox T-
****rt is perhaps the most descriptive information police have about
the body found floating in Gardiner=92s Bay, near the entrance to
Napeague Harbor, on Saturday evening.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner=92s Office completed the autopsy on
Tuesday, but the man remains a John Doe. East Hampton Town Police
Chief Todd Sarris said what they know is minimal: He was about six
feet tall, weighed 240 pounds, and had been in the water for weeks.
=93The state of decomposition was pretty severe,=94 the chief said, so
severe that the man=92s ethnic descent and even his eye color couldn=92t
be determined. =93A body in the water for that length of time blows up
quite a bit, and almost turns purple,=94 he said. =93Animals had got to
him,=94 disfiguring his face
