Is there such a thing as a bad win? No.
Is there such a thing as winning in spite of yourself? Indeed.
That's what this game was. Heading into the late innings, the A's had
a 8-6 lead on the road in Toronto. Those are games you must win if you
want to be a good team contending for a playoff spot.
Well, the A's won it, but not until after they blew the two-run lead
with poor relief pitching first.
On that note, Alan Embree's 2007 season is already a distant memory.
And Chad Gaudin is continuing to prove me right: he is not a MLB
starter.
And Ryan Sweeney's 2008 season is looking BRIGHT. He saved the A's
with a ninth-inning triple, and Huston Street did his job (finally?)
to close out the win.
Can't complain about a win, but when you work this hard for a win, it
takes a little bit out of you -- more than it should. Perhaps it was
Earl Weaver who said the harder you work in April, the less harder you
have to work in September.
The A's don't understand that, and I'll never get that about this
current Oakland franchise.
But hey, they're only a half-game out of first ... and that will make
them complacent.
A's Record: 4-4
A's Should-Be Record: 6-2
