Well, the A's blew another late inning lead last night, only to win
the game in extra innings. And they owe it all to Travis Buck ...
However, Dana Eveland and the bullpen (sans Alan Embree and his blown
save, of course) deserve a lot of props as well. If Eveland is the
real deal, this A's team is going to be competing for the whole
season. After two starts, his ERA is 0.68, so while Rich Harden heads
to the DL (again), the A's might have some hope.
It was very smart not to pitch Huston Street in this game, so props to
the manager for learning that little obvious fact. Who got the save in
the 12th inning? None other than Keith Foulke. It doesn't quite make
up for the blown save in Game Four of the 2003 ALDS, but it's a nice
attempt at making peace on Foulke's part.
And Travis Buck: he had three hits and all three RBI for the A's last
night. The rest of the offense only got five hits and four walks in 12
innings. Not very good, but Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum was
pitching well, and in a game like this, you take the win any way you
can get it.
Right?
A's Record: 6-4
A's Should-Be Record: 7-3
