Well, the A's rookie pitchers are sure doing their jobs, eh?
With a 2.08 ERA, Greg Smith is certainly endearing himself. And with a
2-1 win over the White Son the road last night, he is also showing
he's worthy of more starts in the rotation.
Where do the A's find these guys? After the semi-disasters of Shane
Komine and Jason Windsor, it's nice to see Eveland and Smith stepping
it up. Of course, Billy Beane knows what he's doing, right?
Why did we ever doubt him?!
Smith went seven innings, gave up six hits, one walk and one run while
striking out four. The bullpen did its job, and Street got his fourth
save.
Ho hum.
Scoring only two runs might be a slight concern, but if you win the
game, it's a problem for tomorrow, right?
The A's did get ten hits, so the probably should have scored another
run. Four of those hits came from rookie catcher Kurt Suzuki, who you
should probably grab in an AL-only fantasy keeper league right now.
Mike Sweeney and Emil Brown also had two hits, so eight hits on the
night came from just three players.
This is like that proverbial team where every day someone else steps
to the plate (pun intended) and delivers for the team. That's good --
the A's are not relying on one guy to get it down every night. That
offensive flexibility is a good thing, even if the low-run output on
occasion causes concern.
A's Record: 9-5
A's Should-Be Record: 10-4
