Interesting cross post here the other day, but since it had a
deceiving title, thought it would get more exposure with the
appropriate subject line. Here it is: it was August 1980, the
powerhouse first place Philadelphia Phillies (with Mike Schmidt, Greg
Luzinski) came into Shea for a 5 game series with the surprising Mets
(up to that point, just 7 1/2 games out of first). This was the Mets
chance to finally show that they were back, that the magic was back.
As we all know, the Mets got swept.
