Horrifyingly enough, Sanchez and Wilson had the two highest VORPs on
the Pirates for 2007, 27.5 and 24.8 respectively.

I will certainly agree that the 14m spent on Wilson is too much, but,
as far as Huntington is concerned, that is a sunk cost.  It's not like
teams are battering down the door to take over that contract.  Sanchez
for 11m over two years isn't going to be a Pat Mears/Kevin Young/
Derrick Bell type anchor on the payroll.

Is there a 3rd baseman available on the market in the 4.3 million
price range who will improve the 3B position enough to cover for
replacing Sanchez with replacement level talent at 2B?  Not that I am
aware of.
