Okay, just for accuracy's sake, they're in 4th place, 5.5 games out (2
games
under .500). Nothing special, but better than most of the 15 years past
compared to this stage of season.

I'm sure they want the team to win also. At least the cheering gives one
that impression. Do they care neough about winning to stay away from
games?
I doubt it. But that's a debatable strategy anyway.
I hate all that extra junk too though. Just gimme the game.

I think the Pirates are going to contend this year. Played most of the
season without their shortstop or very good starting pitching and they're
still only two games under. The Central is not that strong a division, so
a
..500 record (if they can get there) will be enough to make it an
interesting
September. And compared to the last 15 years, I'll take it. I like the new
manager and GM too, but that will take a while to see what they can do
with
the minors and in building the system back up. So far no bad moves though.
They cut Morris (a bad move by they prior administration). That took guts
to
eat all that money and is a good sign they want to win IMHO.
