It's actually a pretty sad day. MLB had been warned about performance
enhancing drugs for quite some time. Commissioner Fay Vincent was
warning MLB as far back as 1991 about this. Everyone looked the other
way. They really looked the other way after the '94 strike. They
needed fans back, and the power hitting stats, packed them in. Revenue
poured in, ****ny new ballparks were built, fat free agent contracts
were signed. They ignored the threat of performance enhancing because
it benefitted them. Only now, when hallowed records have fallen, do
they finally decide it was wrong. They decide it was wrong AFTER they
make their money, AFTER they get their ****ny new ballparks. And AFTER
their precious records are broken. I hope Barry Bonds tells the Hall
of Fame to stuff it if they accept they his aterisk stamped ball. MLB
has earned every bit of this shame. Yeah, it did kinda tarnish Jake
Peavy's Day, having this new breaks at the same time. Jake will get
over it. If you can talk about your contract on the day you win the Cy
Young, Barry Bonds spoiling your day shouldnt really bother you much.
Hey Jake, you are under contract through '08, and last time I checked,
the Padres have an $11 million option for '09. Seems like a lack of
class to me. I'd start praying to the baseball gods now, for a healthy
arm until your contract is up. Your current contract also says the
Padres can buy you out for $500,000 in '09. The eggs aint even been
laid yet for the chickens you are already counting.
