The hottest topic at the Dodger news group is the Padre acquisition
of Mark Prior. Some of the LA regulars are not happy about it.
Here is a sampling of their opinions:

"What the hell is the FO doing or thinking? While they're dicking
around the Pads get Prior for 1 mil + incentives. Granted he's a
gamble since he's comming off shoulder surgery but for the price it's
a gamble worth taking. Too if he gets halfway back to his 03 form he's
a steal. Damn colletti, asleep at the wheel once again."
AGUA GIRL
I think this is one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't
moves. If Colletti had signed him there would be half a dozen com-
plaints of how the Dodger brass is veteran blind. Yes, it's a cheap
gamble but remember it's not just the money, it's also a roster spot.
I am not sorry to see him in San Deigo.
DAVID
It might be a Greg Maddux situation considering Prior is from San
Diego. Pitching is scarce in MLB these days, so for any team to
get/have a quality pitcher hats off to them.
MIKE
That might have been why he signed for 1 mil but surely colletti could
have come up with a bit more on the basic contract and a bit more in
incentives. Even if Prior turned it down it'd have been nice to hear
that he made a play for him, since the team needs pitching. Granted
he'd be a gamble. But DAMN! For that cheap it's a gamble that the
Dodgers should have at least attempted. And remember Prior went
to USC, so he'd still be in his old neigborhood.
RICH
After last season, it makes sense to me to see Colletti take a pass on
Prior - after siging Kuroda, the Dodgers have 6 starters on the roster
already, two of whom are coming off injuries - a third pitcher coming
off injury would be risking a repeat of last season's mess.
MIKE
Except that what if those 2 go down again? The same thing happens and
the team is scrambling all over again. With Pryor, for what amounts to
nothing, if anyone of them goes down there's still a capable SP. IOW
you can't have too much pitching and especially at that cost.
