Padres' 11-5 win over the Giants
Tim Lincecum felt more like talking about his mistakes than his
successes. After missing a start to allow a slight groin strain time
to heal, Lincecum gave up four runs in the first inning of the San
Francisco Giants' 11-5 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednes-
day. Lincecum followed with a scoreless second.
Padres' starter Chris Young also had one trouble inning, giving up all
three of his runs in the third. He allowed four hits over four innings
with a walk and four strikeouts.
"It was all right," Young said. "I made a couple of mistakes where the
slider just kind of spun. I did throw a lot of changeups today and
even got a strikeout on one, so I have to be happy with it."
Jody Gerut and Paul McAnulty homered for the Padres.
Chase Headley hit a three-run double in the first. McAnulty's three-
run drive came in the eighth against Brad Hennessey. Gerut hit his
second home run in as many days.
Gerut and McAnulty are vying for the same outfield job. They are both
hitting .391 and have combined for five home runs and 14 RBIs.
"Four runs in the first inning is never good," Lincecum said. "My
problem was keeping the fastball up when I was ahead in the count.
I have a lot of stuff to work on." He gave up four runs and six hits
with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.
"Tim was up today," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said. "He didn't have
good command. We left way, way, way too many balls up. It's getting to
the point of spring training where we have to get our command locked
in."
