Komet 17 and Padre Dog:

I am a grad of Point Loma High School,  longtime rival of Kearny
High in the Western and Eastern Leagues.

OUR legendary coach, Bennie Edens, ran the football program
there for almost 50 years and won 4  CIF titles.  I was lucky 
enough to be in one of his PE classes and he was inspiring.

Coach Edens passed away last month, and some 2,000  Pointer 
alums filled the school's football bleachers for a public memorial.

Several of Bennie Edens' contemporaries attended, and by luck 
I sat next to Coach Slater.  I notified the MC of his presence and 
he was asked to stand.  Coach Slater received a very warm round 
of respectful  applause.

I asked him about a great option QB at Kearny named "Jimbo".
His face lit up as he recalled "Jimbo Harris"  who was something
like a 1960s version of Michael Vick... (without the baggage).

I'll bet if you wrote letters to Kearny and asked to have them
forwarded to Coach Slater, he would receive them.  It is not
to late to say, "Thank You".    :)
