April 3, 1998

Padres 13, Cardinals 5

The Padres have 13 runs (including 6 in the top of the first inning), 13 
hits, and 13 RBI (but no home runs) to beat the Cardinals, 13-5.  Catcher 
Greg Myers (3 for 5, 2 runs, 5 RBI), right fielder Tony Gwynn (3 for 4, 4 
runs, 2 RBI), and first baseman Wally Joyner (3 for 5, 2 runs, 2 RBI) lead

the way.  Myers also has 2 doubles.

Starter Mark Langston (5 innings, 5 earned runs, 5 walks, 4 strikeouts) 
(1-0) gets the win, and relievers Dan Miceli and Marc Kroon each pitch 2 
innings of scoreless relief.

For the Cardinals, starter Manny Aybar (0-1) lasts only 2-1/3 innings, 
giving up 7 hits and 7 earned runs.  Shortstop Royce Clayton goes 2 for 3,

with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Attendance: 26,760
