But it doesn't have anything to do with Trevor Hoffman.
It has to do with middle relief.
Last year we had Cameron and Hampson come out of nowhere and solidify
the 6th and 7th inning roles (both had ERA's of less than 2.80).
But one is hurt and one is in ****tland after a bad spring training.
Plus Brocail is gone.
That leaves us with only three solid relief pitchers - Hoffman, Bell
and Meredith.
That's more than the Giants have, but not enough for a contending
team.
Ledezma has had only one solid season in his career (2006) and is
unlikely to suddenly become the guy we need.
Thatcher was great last year in limited play, but has started
horribly this year. If he can't turn it around then we need help from
somewhere.
Gonzalez is a long-shot who's never had a good major league season.
Rusch has only had one good year in his career (2004) and is also
unlikely to suddenly blossom.
Fortunately we have much needed help just a phone call away in
****tland.
Joshua Greer pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball the other day. Shawn
Estes pitched 6 innings of shutout ball yesterday.
Either of these guys can replace Rusch or Ledezma. Hopefully
Cameron and Hampson can return to their previous form.
