win, 8-3. San Diego's batting star is first baseman Nate Colbert, who

a three-run homer off Niekro. Shortstop Tommy Dean has 2 hits and 2 RBI,
center fielder Cito Gaston has two hits, including a double, and left
fielder Jerry Morales has 2 RBI.
Starter Pat Dobson (1-0) gets the win by throwing 8 innings, striking out
6,
and giving up 8 hits, 1 walk, and 2 earned runs. Reliever Ron Herbel
pitches a one-run 9th inning to get his first save of the year.
Four Braves each have two hits: shortstop Sonny Jackson, second baseman
Felix Millan, first baseman Orlando Cepeda (including a solo home run),
and
center fielder Tony Gonzales.
