The Padres have every opportunity to win tonight as Bud Black
"deals his Ace"... Jake Peavy, and Colorado counters with Jeff
Francis, who is off to a poor beginning.
Las Vegas makes Jake a strong - $1.75 favorite. Here are
some of the numbers driving that figure:
-------------------> Jeff Francis, Rockies <------------------
The left-hander is 0-2 after being abused by Arizona in his initial
starts. ERA of 9.70, and a WHIP of 2.04, after surrendering
19 hits and 4 walks in just 11.1 innings.
Last year Francis was 1-3 against San Diego, with an ERA
of 6.60. In 3 starts at Petco, Francis was hammered for 27
hits, 3 Home Runs, and 5 walks in just 20 innings.
-------------------> Jake Peavy, Padres <------------------
RATHER a different story here .... 3-0 to date, ERA at 1.64
WHIP of 0.91, giving just 14 hits and 6 walks in 22 innings.
Jake worked 14 innings against Colorado last year, allowing
just 2 earned runs and 8 hits ! Lack of run support gave him
"no decisions" in both those starts.
In a Nutshell: If the Friars can put up a few early runs, they
should win this game and take the Series from Colorado.
