Third baseman Sean Burroughs leads San Diego past San Francisco with four
hits--including two doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Right fielder Brian
Giles adds a two-run homer in the first inning, and first baseman Ryan
Klesko (see note below) has two doubles. Starting pitcher Brian Lawrence
(2-1) lasts the minimum five innings to pick up the win, giving up seven
hits, four runs, and two home runs. Four relievers finish up the final
four
innings to preserve the win.
The Giants are led by left fielder Barry Bonds (two-run home run) and
third
baseman Pedro Feliz (two for four, a home run, and two RBI). Starter
Dustin
Hermanson (1-1) lasts only 3-2/3 innings, giving up nine hits and six runs
to the Padres.
