BOB BARTON had the final, game-winning hit in the greatest
single - game combeack in San Diego Padre history
The Friars trailed the visiting Pirates 8-0 in 1974, going to the 8th
inning. They tallied 4 in the 8th, and then 5 more in the 9th to
stun the Buccos 9 to 8.
Bob Barton's single won it, and hung the loss on rookie reliever
KENT TEKULVE, he of the submarine pitch delivery.
Soon afthis fiasco, Tekulve was ****pped back to the minors.
He later came back and became their bullpen ace.
