A common theme I am hearing from fellow fans and media is that this is
a boring team. That is the truth. When the Giants were here this week,
the Padres looked like they lacked drive when they played, especially
at the plate. The Giants and their 3 rookies in the lineup looked they
wanted to win, showed some character and youthfulness on field.
Remember the '04 (and some earlier Padres teams)? Remember the
character those teams had? Guys like Sweeny and Nevin, Klesko when he
still had some game left? Remember Pay-Lo's? Someone on the bench
would ceremoniously remove the helmet from his teammate who just
crossed the plate? The Giants may not have a winning record this
season, but at least it looks like they are trying, and having a
little fun to boot. The Padres don't look like that at all. Who is our
clubhose leader? Where is our character and driver? And when was the
last time anyone mentioned Giants and youthful in the same sentence???
I thought they were trying to open an AARP branch at AT&T Park???
