Today in Padre History

Padres 8, Marlins 7

San Diego scores 6 runs in the first 3 innings and makes that stand up to 
beat Florida, 8-7.  The game's highlight is San Diego batting around the 
order to score 4 runs on 6 hits in the top of the 3rd inning.  Quilvio 
Veras, Steve Finley, Ed Giovanola, and Chris Gomez each have two hits for 
the Padres, and Wally Joyner has 3.  Starter Joey Hamilton (3-1) is the 
beneficiary of the offense's output, lasting 5 innings while giving up 5 
runs, 8 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 2.  Close Trevor Hoffman picks up 
his 8th save of the season with a scoreless 9th inning.

Marlin starter Eric Ludwick (1-3) takes the loss, lasting only 2 innings 
while giving up 4 runs.  Shortstop Edgar Renteria is Florida's hitting 
leader, going 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer.
