That would be an awfully lame excuse, even if it wasn't a complete
load of crap. "They aren't bad players, they're just weak in the
head."
But, it is a complete load of crap. If it's just some kind of mental
block by the Padres, why does it also affect the opponents? The
Padres have a 2.88 ERA at home, compared to 5.52 on the road.
Apparently, the dimensions have gotten into the heads of the rest of
the league, too.
If the players think that it's hard to score runs at Petco Park, it
might just be because it's hard to score runs at Petco Park. Saying
that it's in their heads is like saying that it's gotten into the
heads of scuba divers that it's hard to breathe underwater.
While we're on the subject of dumb things said on 1090, today Darren
Smith was talking about McAnulty's boneheaded baserunning, and
suggested that the solution would be for him to go to the American
League and become a DH.
