Er... remember Frank Cashen? You know, the GM that led the dominating
Mets of late 80s? 1986 WS? 1988 NL series? The Mets would of made
the playoffs every year from 1984 to 1992 if they have wildcard back
then.
As for Philips skills as GM, it's mixed. True he did many good
things, but he also has done many horrible things. Mo Vaughn being
the most obvious. His fascination that Ordonez is worth $6 million
(back then that was all-star salary), and of course he dissed ARod by
calling him 25-1. Robert Alomar trade, etc. etc.
