AAA: Fresno lost to Oklahoma 7-6
Fresno: DH Scott McClain: 2 for 5, HR
Fresno: RF Nate Schierholtz: 2 for 5, SO
Fresno: 1B Brett Harper: 2 for 4, 2 2B, SO
Oklahoma: RF John Mayberry: 2 for 4, HR, SO
Fresno: RHP Brooks McNiven: 4.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K--1 WP
Fresno: RHP Randy Messenger: 1.0 IP, 2 K
Fresno: RHP Jesse Foppert: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER--1 HR
Oklahoma: RHP Kazuo Fukumori: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K--1 WP
Schierholtz, McClain and Harper each had two of the Grizzlies' dozen
hits. The team drew no walks. McClain connected for his 8th HR with
two outs in the 9th inning to draw the Grizzlies within one run before
Schierholtz made the final out. Harper's .417 AVG (15 for 36) in May
has raised his season AVG to .320. The Rangers' 24-year-old Mayberry
is having a big season. He was promoted to the PCL in late April,
where he has cooled off a bit, but is still hitting .309/.354/.596 for
the minor league season.
After an ERA barely over 2.00 through four starts in the Eastern
League, McNiven seems overmatched in the PCL with an ERA just shy of
14.00 in three starts. PCL batters have hit .449 against him.
Messenger's perfect 5th inning was his fifth straight appearance
without allowing an earned run. Foppert's ERA rose to 3.63 after ten
appearances. The Rangers' Fukumori allowed an earned run, but still
has a sub-2.00 ERA over ten appearances since being demoted in mid-
May.

A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 4-0
San Jose: 3B Ryan Rohlinger: 2 for 4, SO
San Jose: C Pablo Sandoval: 2 for 4, 2B
San Jose: LHP Ben Snyder: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
With two hits each, Rohlinger and Sandoval accounted for half of the
Giants' eight hits. Rohlinger has a .378 AVG in May (17 for 45) to
lift his season AVG to .293. Sandoval had his first multi-hit line in
nearly a week, but his AVG remains above .400. After 7 HRs in April,
he has yet to go deep this month. His SLG of .425 so far in May is
lower than his .453 AVG in April.
Snyder's ERA got even lower, now 0.73, with 7 shutout innings. He
improved his W-L record to 5-0 in eight starts. He did allow a season-
high seven hits, but they were all singles. With 20 K and 2 BB over
his last three starts, his K/BB ratio is now above 7.00.
A-: Augusta defeated Rome 2-1
Augusta: RF Francisco Peguero: 2 for 5, SO
Augusta: 1B Angel Villalona: 1 for 4, HR, SO
Augusta: SS Charlie Culberson: 2 for 3, BB, CS
Rome: RF Jason Heyward: 3 for 4, CS
Augusta: LHP Madison Bumgarner: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K--1
BK, 1 PO
Augusta: RHP Oliver Odle: 1.2 IP, 1 H
Augusta: RHP Danny Otero: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K
Rome: LHP Jeff Locke: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K--1 HR, 1 HB
Villalona led off the 4th inning with his 3rd HR. Culberson now has
more hits in his past five games (8 for 17) than he had in his
previous 21 games (7 for 70). He also has more walks (3) in his last
five games than he had (2) in his previous 21 games. Peguero has a .
229 AVG as a backup outfielder for the GreenJackets. Heyward,
arguably the Braves' top prospect, had three of his team's seven hits
to raise his AVG to .331. He was caught stealing for the first time
this year (against 8 SB) when Bumganer picked him off. An article in
today's Augusta Chronicle notes that the Giants and all their
affiliates are leading the league or close to leading their league in
stolen bases. It also notes that Brock Bond had his 19-game hitting
streak snapped last night when he struck out swinging in his only
plate appearance. He was pinch hitting in the 7th inning for DH
Thomas Neal, who had (coincidentally?) been hit by a pitch in the 1st
inning.
Bumgarner had his fourth straight start with no earned runs allowed.
Over those four starts he has 13 H, 5 BB and 30 K in 22.1 IP. Odle
made his first relief appearance after six starts this year. Otero
recorded his 8th save as he maintained his spotless 0.00 ERA. Locke,
one of the Braves' top ten prospects, pitched more effective than in
his start six days ago against the GreenJackets, but he once again
suffered the loss to drop his W-L record to 1-4.
