Stanford: gonna be one of those years ...

by Tony Lima <tonylima2@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 9, 2008 at 10:41 PM

The Cardinal take two of three at Tejas, winning the rubber
game Sunday 11-8. The game was stopped after 8 innings
because of a 4 pm time limit agreed to by the coaches before
the game.

Better hang on for a wild ride. Mark Marquess appears to
have a bumper crop of freshman pitchers. In Saturday's
game, frosh RHP Drew Storen (Brownsburg, IN) got the win
with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. Sunday another
freshman RHP Alex Pracher got the save in relief. Storen
seems to have especially nasty stuff.

The offense so far has been carried by C Jason Castro,
OF/LHP Sean Ratliff, 1B Randy Molina and quite a few others.
Castro hit the game-winning two-run homer Saturday. Sunday
Ratliff was 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, two home runs
and five RBI. Just a single short of the cycle <g>. He
also came in as a relief pitcher -- and got the win. Heck
of a day. It's very good news because Ratliff had been in a
bit of a slump to start the season.

Prediction: Monday morning Stanford will make its first
appearance in the top 25 in quite a while. - Tony
