Miami Completes Sweep of Tech, 9-3
Plagman homers for Jackets in losing effort
April 13, 2008

ATLANTA - Yonder Alonso and Adan Severino homered and drove in two runs
each to pace a 16-hit attack, leading No. 1-ranked Miami to a 9-3
victory Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium and a sweep of the weekend
Atlantic Coast Conference series.

David Gutierrez (2-0), making his fourth start of the season, gave up
three runs in the first three innings, but earned the victory with six
solid innings for the Hurricanes, who improved to 30-3 overall and 15-1
in the ACC. Gutierrez scattered five hits and two walks while fanning
four batters.

Tech, 26-10 overall and 9-9 in the ACC, took its first lead of the
series, scoring single runs in the first three innings, but failed to
score again after Gutierrez settled down and the Miami bullpen shut out
the Jackets in the last three frames.

Derek Dietrich drove in the first Tech run with an RBI single in the
first, and Tony Plagman hit his ninth homer of the season in the second.

Alonso singled home a run and then scored on a passed ball to knot the
score at 2-2 in the third. Tech got the run back in the bottom half when
Thomas Nichols doubled and scored on a passed ball.

Miami tied it again when Jemile Weeks drew a bases-loaded walk from Zach
Von Tersch in the fourth, then grabbed the lead on Severino's two-run
homer in the fifth. Alonso belted a solo shot, his eighth of the season,
to make it 6-3 in the sixth.

Von Tersch (4-2) was relieved after 4-2/3 innings, having given up five
runs on 10 hits and four walks.
